8.2 million people in Taiwan has chosen Tsai Ing-wen in the election

Following 2 million people who joined the demonstration in Hong Kong on June 16, 2019, 8.2 million people who loves freedom and democracy said “NO” to China in Taiwan on January 11, 2020.

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen secured a second term in the election which main issue was their relationship with China.

Last summer, only a third people supported Ms Tsai according to a poll. It turned out to be China’s President Xi Jinping, who contributed most to her recovery in approval rating since then, ironically.

Nearly 60% people have chosen free, democratic and independent Taiwan. If we had opposite results, Japan had had lost the only ally in East Asia who values int’l law, liberalism, and democracy. The resistance to China is going on.

Ms Tsai told a news conference: “Taiwan is showing the world how much we cherish our free democratic way of life and how much we cherish our nation.”

China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949. It says Taiwan must eventually be reunited with China, by force if necessary.
