Taiwan donated 2 million surgical masks to Japan

On April 16, 2020, Taiwan donated two million surgical masks to Japan, where a state of emergency had been declared in 7 prefectures (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Osaka, Hyogo, and Fukuoka) on April 7 and expanded nationwide on April 16, over spiked coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

Taiwan has successfully increased its production of masks from less than 2 million per day to more than 17 million per day after coronavirus shock in just a half year period.

It’s always great to help your friends with your strengths. Taiwan separately donated 5 million masks to the US.

Remember the donation from Taiwan. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

The donation is a response to requests for masks made earlier by the Japan-Taiwan Friendship Diet, a pro-Taiwan caucus in the Japanese parliament, and civil groups in Japan, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). It reflects the close and robust friendship shared by Taiwan and Japan, the ministry said.
