G7 Foreign Ministers’ Statement on Hong Kong

Regarding China’s decision to impose a national security law on Hong Kong, G7 made a statement to urge China to reconsider it on June 18, 2020. I would say that Japan fulfilled minimum responsibilities as the only member of G7 in Asia.

Needless to say, it risks “One Country, Two Systems” principle and Hong Kong’s autonomy.

Open debate, consultation with stakeholders, and respect for protected rights and freedoms in Hong Kong are essential. […] We strongly urge the Government of China to re-consider this decision.
